Lommelse Sahara

A natural phenomenon!
In the middle of a large coniferous forest you suddenly bump into a desert-like landscape. Wonderfully beautiful among the scented coniferous forests. The clear blue lake and the unique fauna and flora make a walk to the Lommel Sahara one to remember. As strange as it may sound, the protected nature reserve was created by ... environmental pollution.
Due to the fumes from the former zinc factory, the green plants disappeared like snow in the sun.
The result: an arid landscape, conceived by white sand. A new forest was planted a long time ago to prevent the sand plains from expanding. With this unique nature reserve as a strikingly beautiful result.
In the immediate vicinity you will find the Kempens canal and the already unique pedestrian bridge. Through this impressive piece of architecture you enter a hiking and nature reserve that has no equal!
